Mercedes-Benz or BMW? What a question right? This times’ Whip Guide we wanted to take these two German car manufacturers to the test. Are you more of a Mercedes or BMW type of guy/woman? Yes, women. Most of the time when talking about cars, it’s viewed from a male perspective. We want to know what the ladies think.
‘The best or nothing.’ – Mercedes-Benz –
Lets put these two brands side by side, starting with Mercedes-Benz. The brand, mostly pronounced as Merry, Benz or just casually Mercedes, is a global automobile manufacturer and a division of the German company Daimler AG. Mercedes is known for manufacturing luxury vehicles such as buses, coaches and lorries. The company’s headquarter is stationed in Stuttgart – Baden, Württemberg. Mercedes-Benz traces its origins back to Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft’s 1901 Mercedes and Karl Benz’s 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen, which is widely regarded as the first gasoline-powered automobile. The thing is, when we talk about Mercedes, we don’t only talk about the cars you would see on the daily in your local streets. The company’s alliances manage to get your attention every time you spot one. Let’s face it, if you know Mercedes, you can spot the differences between a C63 and a C63 S AMG Edition 1. Imagine ordering yourself an Uber and as a surprise a Mercedes-Maybach S600 stops in front of your porch instead of the usual S550. You will see – and as soon as you get in – feel the difference.
Now Mercedes is not the only manufacturer delivering such class and power to the hands and feet of happy customers. Bayerische Motoren Werke, better known as BMW, Beamer or as the Jamaicans say: ‘Bimma’, is the direct opponent of Mercedes-Benz. The car manufacturer isn’t too shy when it comes to delivering very luxurious and powerful vehicles. The car manufacturing company exists for over 100 years now. BMW was founded by Karl Rapp in 1916, that had the company focussed on production of aircraft engine production in first instance. The actual car production started in 1928, after BMW started their motorcycle production back in 1923. Back in the day, if you owned a E21 3 Series, it was safe to say that you were rolling with the big boys. While nowadays, 3 series leave the manufacturing company like hot cakes. Like Mercedes-Benz, BMW has their own special touch to some of their cars. M division, Alpina, those names ring a bell? BMW’s M division released their first car in 1978, a 1 series mid-engine coupé that was developed in conjunction with Lamborghini. But the car that really levitated the M Division was the in 1985 introduced E30 based M3. This is a car that even youngsters born a lot later than the first production appreciate. Not to mention, the car made it to Frank Ocean’s album cover for Nostalgia, Ultra.
‘Freude am fahren’, which is German for ‘driving pleasure’ – BMW –
Now that you know a little bit more about the two brands, we think it’s time for a poll. Before you decide which brand you’re supporting, see the image ranges first. Have fun!
