“According to therapists, being a super-millionaire is a sure-fire recipe for unhappiness.” – Helen Kirwan-Taylor, The Telegraph UK
We have heard this before: bored richdom. About this unfathomable feeling that occurs to rich people, which leads to unhappiness or sometimes even depression. I guess living that lavish life ain’t a happy life after all. A group of Dutch artists came together after Vivian Camphuijsen got inspired by the quote above. Alongside MUAH Chris Volkers and stylist Edward Boyé they created the mini series called ‘Bored Richdom’ and the end results look amazing!
The goal was to display the rich youth, whom realised their richness from a very young age wearing ‘bling’ that sometimes weighs more than themselves, never leave the door looking sluggish whilst drowning in an environment controlled by materialistic mindsets. Most of them will live their life ignorant of the fact that they are extremely blessed and couldn’t care less what others have to do to even get a sniff of their richness. They will never really have to toil or earn something. However, the two models in the photos depict teenagers that almost feel tormented by this existential crisis it seems, feeling inhibited to live a normal life. The series is a day in the life of these two teenagers and the expressions say it all.
