‘Lichting’, a competition in the form of one central runway show of the fourteen best graduates of the Dutch academies. The winner of the show wins a cash prize of € 10K that has been provided by the Meester Koetsier Foundation. The winner is chosen by a jury that consists out of greats such as Filep Motwary, Christopher New, Alvise Bullo and Gry Nissen.
This year’s winner is Ferry Schiffelers. His collection Défilé de Deuil brought up good reactions to not only the jury but a lot of people attending the show. Ferry used various models which included a child and as explained, grandmother. The jury was very pleased with Ferry’s story behind his collection and that’s why the young designer had a bit of a jumpstart to winning this competition. According to the jury, this was the talent that is most likely to blossom.
“The moment I saw the collection entering the room I got deeply emotional.” – Filep Motwary –
Alongside Ferry’s collection, Berend Brus’s ‘Queer’ collection is a counter-reaction to the hatred of the LGBTQ community. Imagine jeans chaps, jeans in patchwork, jeans dresses, and that interspersed with pink. And so there were more good designs that were brought to life out of great backstories. It’s pretty safe to say that Lichting is one of the most anticipated shows at the Amsterdam Fashion Week because Fashion is something based on the future of our young designers their precious mind.
