For the eighth year in a row, Hennessy has released a Very Special Limited Edition bottle in collaboration with a high-profile artist. After the colorful edition of JonOne last year, the world’s best-selling cognac brand this year has art phenomenon and urban street artist Alexandre Farto a.k.a. Vhils know how to tie for the design of the exclusive bottle.
The Portuguese artist is known for his extensive portraits that have been cut, carved or exploded from different layers of brick, paper, paint, stone or wood. Vhils’ way of working is a fitting metaphor for Hennessy for the art of cognac making: both have an unchanging passion to work with elements that can only be formed by time. For both, the creative process is a poetic search for making the invisible visible.
“Whether it involves exposing different layers in a city or blending a perfect cognac, in both cases the essential element is time. You have to be patient, let time work and then work with the layers that have created time, ” – Vhils.
For his Very Special design, Vhils experimented with paper, heat and acid in which familiar Hennessy symbols, such as the grapevine, the three stars and the coat of arms of the cognac house, were subtly incorporated. The result is a bottle that brings back both the characteristic grungy, modern aesthetics of the artist and the more than 250 years old history of Hennessy.
His distinctive style is reflected in the design of the new Hennessy Very Special Limited Edition bottle, which is available in very limited quantities at selected liquor stores in the Netherlands retailing at € 32,50.
