As part of the Spring/Summer ’19 collection, Daily Paper releases a limited edition capsule collection in collaboration with Elman Peace, a non-profit organization established in 1990 and based in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Like Daily Paper, The Elman Peace ethos revolves around promoting peace, cultivating leadership, and empowering society. Its torch was passed on to Ilwad Elman in 2010 who has been running all operations. Elman Peace is named after its founder and Ilwad her father, Elman Ali Ahmed; remembered in the Somalian community to this day as the Somali Father of Peace.
The Daily Paper x Elman Peace Capsule collection features a series of ten white cotton T-shirts serving as the canvas to unique artworks created by students currently residing at the Elman Peace residence, and participating in their Art Therapy program. The artworks provide a glimpse of the positivity, as well as everyday life in Somalia.
Each of the ten limited edition T-shirts with unique drawing is named after its artist. The children, aged 13-16 years old, all have their own story yet share in common that they have left armed groups to work on reclaiming their lives through rehabilitation and reintegration. The Art Therapy project aims to provide children with a safe space, a support system and helping each other to lead a better life.
As the three Daily Paper founders’ roots lie in Africa, they share the collective passion of giving back to the community. By working alongside Elman Peace to create the 10-piece limited edition Capsule Collection, Daily Paper is able to donate the proceeds of the T-shirts sales, whether purchased in the Daily Paper stores, on the online site, or through a retailer, to the Art Therapy Program to support more children exposed to protracted periods of war in their home country Somalia.
Besides the collaborative work on the Elman Peace capsule collection, Daily Paper has set in motion the building of a full-sized football pitch on for the Elman Peace community, to support the initiative and provide those of all ages with a chance to play football and continue to work as a team. The Daily Paper x Elman Peace Capsule Collection is available at selected global retailers and in the Daily Paper stores in Amsterdam.
